Planning a wedding comes with a lot of moving parts, a lot of opinions, and at least one moment where you stare into the distance and wonder why chair covers somehow became a real decision.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, you’re also trying to choose the person who’s going to document one of the biggest days of your life.

So let’s make this part easier.

If you’re wondering what it’s actually like to work with me as your wedding photographer, here’s the honest version: I’m here to make the process feel more guided, more personal, and a whole lot less overwhelming.

I don’t just show up with a camera and hope for the best. My goal is to help you feel prepared, comfortable, and confident from the time you book until your final gallery is delivered.

It starts with a real conversation

Once you book, we kick things off with a meet-up or phone call where we go over your wedding day plans, your vision, and anything you’re unsure about. This is where we talk through the big things, the little things, and yes — even the classic “what do I do with my hands?” kind of questions.

This part matters because every couple is different.

Some of my couples know exactly what they want.

Some have a Pinterest board with 900 saved photos.

Some are just hoping to survive wedding planning with their sanity intact.

Wherever you fall on that scale, I meet you there.

Your engagement session is more than just pretty photos

One of my favorite parts of the process is the engagement session, because it gives us a chance to actually spend time together before the wedding day.

It’s a fun, no-pressure way for you to get comfortable in front of the camera, get to know how I direct and pose, and ease a lot of those nerves before the big day. My guide describes it as a practice run that helps everything flow more naturally when the wedding comes.

In other words: by the time your wedding day arrives, I’m not a random person with a camera. I’m someone you’ve already worked with, laughed with, and built trust with.

That makes a huge difference.

One of the things my couples receive is my wedding guide

One of the things that’s included in the experience of working with me is my wedding guide.

I don’t just show up on the wedding day, take photos, and call it a day. I want my couples to feel supported, prepared, and taken care of throughout the entire process, and the guide is one of the ways I do that.

It’s there to help answer questions, ease stress, and give you a better idea of what to expect as your wedding gets closer. Instead of feeling like you’re figuring everything out on your own, you have something to look back on that helps you feel more confident, more prepared, and a lot less overwhelmed.

Inside the guide, I walk through things like the overall process, engagement sessions, lighting tips, photo ideas, getting ready, portraits, after-the-ceremony flow, and what happens after the wedding. It’s meant to be your playbook for a smooth, unforgettable wedding day while still keeping everything true to your vibe, your style, your story, your way.

And because I know wedding planning already comes with plenty of information, I don’t just hand you the guide and leave you to sort through it alone. I walk through it with you, answer questions, and help break things down so it feels helpful and exciting — not overwhelming.

That way, it becomes more than just a guide. It becomes part of the experience of working with me.

I help with more than just photos

A big part of my job is helping your day flow better.

That means helping you think through things like:

  • the best lighting for different parts of the day

  • how to make getting-ready spaces photograph better

  • when portraits will fit most naturally into your timeline

  • how to create room for meaningful moments without your day feeling like one big photoshoot

For example, my guide talks about how a clean getting-ready space, a good window, and a little extra time can make a huge difference in both the photos and the overall vibe of the morning. It even recommends creating a no-photo zone for bags, cords, snacks, and wedding-day chaos so your photos stay calm and beautiful.

That’s the kind of support I love giving — practical things that make a real difference.

I want your portraits to feel relaxed, not stiff

A lot of couples worry they’ll look awkward in photos.

That is incredibly normal.

The good news? You do not need to show up already knowing how to pose or magically become professional models for the day.

I guide you through portraits in a way that feels natural and flattering, and I build in moments that let you actually breathe and reconnect. My guide explains that portraits are not just about checking a box — they’re about holding still the moments that otherwise fly by. It also highlights how evening portraits around golden hour often become some of a couple’s absolute favorite images because they feel relaxed, intimate, and full of emotion.

So yes, we’ll get the timeless portraits.

But we’ll also make space for the in-between moments, the genuine laughter, the softer connection, and the images that feel the most like you.

I’m thinking about the full story of your day

I’m not just looking for the big, obvious moments.

I’m paying attention to the energy of the day, the emotion, the little details, the quiet exchanges, the celebration afterward, and the parts you may not even realize are happening in real time.

That’s why I put so much care into helping couples think through the full flow of the day — from getting ready, to portraits, to after-the-ceremony coverage, to those beautiful moments when everything starts to settle and you finally get to take it all in.

You won’t be left wondering what happens after the wedding

After the wedding, the excitement doesn’t just disappear into a black hole while you wonder if your photographer is alive.

You’ll know what to expect.

Your guide includes a full photo delivery section so couples understand the process from wedding day to gallery delivery. It also explains that your images deserve more than living in a folder in the cloud, which is why I also offer high-quality print products and keepsakes through a trusted professional print partner.

I want your photos to be experienced, printed, held, displayed, and loved for years to come.

My approach in one sentence?

Helpful, calm, personal, and just enough humor to keep this whole thing from feeling too serious.

Because yes, weddings are meaningful and emotional and beautiful.

But they should also still feel like you.

Final thoughts

At the end of the day, working with me is about more than booking someone to take photos.

It’s about having someone in your corner who wants your experience to feel smooth, supported, and true to your story from start to finish.

You do not have to have everything figured out.

You do not have to know exactly how the timeline should go.

You do not have to know what to do in front of the camera.

That’s what I’m here for.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who cares about the experience just as much as the final images, I’d love to connect and hear more about your day.

I photograph weddings in Altoona and throughout Central Pennsylvania, and I work with couples who want beautiful images and a guided, stress-reducing experience from start to finish.
